Dear Friends!

I have visited your much interesting site many times, because we are a
group
of Military Archeology from Szczecin (Stettin). I would like to tell some
comments about the history of I. V. Davydov, airman of the 189
Gvardieiskiy
Shturmovyj Aviapol'k. 22.04.45 there is a gap in the writing, but it must
be
Szczecin (Stettin) because on this particular day the Russian support
aircraft was attacking targets about 10 km SW of Stettin after gen.
Batov's
65th Army had crossed Oder two days before. You write, that the plane was
hit on the 25th April near Tantow (now in Germany) and crashed somewhere
at
the bank of the Oder river. What is strange, his body must have been taken
about 20 km east and buried there. There is a village "Ueckerhof" 16 km S
of
Stargard (now Ukiernica) and there must have been a field military
cementary
for Russian soldiers. If I. V. Davydov was buried there, in the years
1947-1950 was exhumated and taken to the Russian War Cementary in Pyritz
(now Pyrzyce) where his body is up to day.

And there is another matter that arose last week. In the lake MoryЯ, 100
km
south of Szczecin, our friends found the wreck of a Russian Il-2m3 support
airplane. It is almost completely destroyed and in pieces. But they came
across some human bones - presumably of the crew. It must have crashed in
February-March 1945. Can you give any idea to which unit it belonged? We
will try to find any personal effects of the crew and let you know at
once.

Best regards,
Piotr Brzezinski
