BN 10:12 Iranians Say They're Holding Top Al-Qaeda Members, AP Reports
July 23 (Bloomberg) -- The Iranian government today said was holding senior members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist
organization, the Associated Press reported.
``A large number of small- and big-time elements of al-Qaeda
are in our custody,'' AP cited Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi was telling reporters in the capital, Tehran.
Yunesi didn't identify any of those held, AP said. He declined to comment when asked about media reports that Iran is
holding al-Qaeda's second in command, Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Ghaith or its security chief, Saif al-Adil, AP reported.
Yunesi was speaking two days after U.S. President George W. Bush said Iran and Syria are harboring terrorists. Al-Qaeda is blamed for the attacks on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001.
